Ethan J. Sherman, PT, DPT
Facility Director / Physical Therapist
“My patient care philosophy is to treat each patient as a unique individual with unique needs. I work with each patient to create a tailored plan of care to reduce their pain and improve their function. My goal for them is to spend less time in doctor’s offices and more time at home, work, and the community.”
“My professional philosophy involves spending the time needed to understand the impairments that are driving each patient’s pain. This way, I can aim the treatment at fixing the real problem and not just masking the pain so that the patient does not have to return for the same problem in the future.”
Ethan joined the PHOENIX Rehabilitation team in 2019 as the Richmond Facility Director. His expertise lies in outpatient orthopedic rehabilitation, specifically of the neck and shoulder. Ethan earned his Board Certification as an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist (OCS) in 2016 following completion of the Virginia Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Institute course series. Also, through direct collaboration with some of Richmond’s best orthopedic surgeons for the past six years, Ethan has advanced his rehabilitation skills of both pre and post orthopedic surgical patients.
He is a born and raised Virginian; growing up in the Hampton Roads area and living in Richmond since 2010. Currently residing in Richmond’s Near West End with his wife and son, Ethan enjoys partaking in Richmond’s growing food and drinks scene. You may also find him exercising (cycling, running, swimming, and weightlifting), snowboarding in the winter, or going to the pool with his family when it’s warm. As an active alumnus, he enjoys attending many JMU football games as well.
